  • Protein reproducible 600 spots were identified. Only 40% were matching in both healthy and BBTV infected hill banana plant. Forty protein spots showed about two-fold difference in intensity and selected for Peptide Mass Fingerprinting. Of those, 32 proteins were identified, 15 up-regulated and 17 down-regulated in the BBTV-infected sample. These proteins were involved in protein degradation, defence signal transfer, cell wall reinforcement, cell division, hormones, energy and metabolism regulation. Cinnamoyl-CoA reductase 1 and Feruloyl CoA ortho-hydroxylase 2 were up-regulated during infection by 2-DE analyses and can be used as disease biomarkers.
